Beginning this summer, students of the John Gokongwei School of Management (JGSOM) will be using brand new computers in their computer laboratory at CTC-114. The 30 units of brand new desktop computers with an Intel core 2 Duo E7300 processor, Apacer 2GB memory and AOC 17-inch LCD monitor were donated by NEO Manufacturing and Services (NEO), a Philippine-based manufacturer of PCs.
During the March 17, 2009 turnover ceremonies, Dr. Ma. Assunta C. Cuyegkeng, VP for the Loyola Schools, expressed the schools appreciation to the donors for their gesture of support in spite of the fact that the IT industry has been challenged by the global economic crisis. She considered the refurbishing of the laboratory as a good step to promote local business so that students will have a greater awareness of the Filipino brand behind the laboratory.
JGSOM Dean Rudy Ang said that the partnership with NEO has helped the school meet its goal of being the best equipped business school in the country. He noted that NEO is a local company that shares a vision with other companies in the world that "investing in the youth is investing in the nation."
Speaking on behalf of Jason Cheng, NEO president, Mutya Syling, VP for planning and operations, said that their company is thankful and proud of being part of the Ateneo community through the laboratory which promotes technology and makes it available to students.
In attendance to witness the signing ceremony were Ateneo and NEO representatives including Dr. Fabian Dayrit, dean of the School of Science and Engineering; Rudy Ang, dean of the JGSOM; and NEOs Mariel Que and Ernel Esplanada.
